Website Changes

One of the projects my company next wants to tackle is to produce a mobile version of our web product. To that end, I have switched to a minimalistic style as a first step before creating a mobile version of this blog. The goal is to llearn a few things before tackling any real work for my company.

Update: I created a "new" blog that sports a customized mobile theme and imported the content from this site. On my to-do list to finish the mobile implementation:
  • Command-line import of entries, comments and trackbacks into the mobile blog
  • Trigger import by detecting any new changes in original site
  • Make a mobile comment link to redirect back to original site
  • Apache URL rewrite to automatically detect mobile phones

Update 2: After some reviewing, it's too much work in making 2 sites and developing the data exchange needed to auto update both. Instead, I will use a mobile template as my main look & feel and slowly customize to work better on computer screens. The comment function is currently busted and I will attempt to backport the necessary code from a regular template. This is how the site looks on an iphone:

Update 3: Comments & trackbacks enabled. UI is more consistent.
